Infrastructure Engineer

Role Overview

Tailscale is looking for a skilled Software Engineer to support and enable internal business units through shared engineering services. You'll own projects end to end, work directly with internal customer-facing teams, and collaborate with product engineering to extract data that drives business decisions.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, test, and document core software components as part of the engineering team
• Build and improve observability through metrics, alerting, logging, and telemetry integration
• Identify and implement Continuous Deployment improvements
• Utilize infrastructure as code to make changes in a cloud environment
• Automate upgrades for managed services and VMs
• Participate in incident response and handle customer support escalations
• Analyze and improve efficiency, scalability, and stability of system resources

Requirements

• Experience with CI/CD, secrets management, infrastructure as code, and observability
• Experience with distributed systems
• Experience operating managed services in a cloud environment (AWS preferred)
• Familiarity with networking — IP addressing, routing, etc.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Ability to work independently and give/receive constructive feedback
• Experience with Kubernetes in production is a strong plus
• Experience with Go is a plus
