Network Engineer II
Job Description
Role Overview
As a Network Engineer II on the Office Technology team, you'll design, deploy, and support office network infrastructure across Datadog's global offices. You'll own network deployment and upgrade projects, troubleshoot LAN, WAN, and Wi-Fi connectivity issues, and collaborate with cross-functional teams to build reliable, scalable, and secure office networking solutions.
Responsibilities
- Deploy and configure switches, routers, wireless access points, and firewalls for new and existing offices.
- Own office network rollout and upgrade projects from planning through implementation and validation.
- Work with ISPs, hardware vendors, and internal teams to provision and maintain network services.
- Troubleshoot LAN, WAN, and wireless connectivity issues using packet captures, logs, and monitoring data.
- Manage routing, VLANs, firewall policies, and wireless configurations following change management practices.
- Create deployment templates, documentation, automation scripts, and Infrastructure as Code where applicable.
- Monitor network performance and participate in incident response and post-incident reviews.
- Maintain network documentation, runbooks, and operational procedures.
- Collaborate with IT Support, Facilities, AV, Security, and Infrastructure teams on office network initiatives.
- Improve network reliability through automation, AI-assisted troubleshooting, and operational improvements.
Requirements
- Strong understanding of TCP/IP, routing, switching, VLANs, DHCP, DNS, and wireless networking.
- Hands-on experience with enterprise networking equipment including switches, routers, firewalls, and wireless access points.
- Experience implementing production network changes and validating deployments.
- Ability to troubleshoot network connectivity and performance issues using logs, packet captures, and monitoring tools.
- Strong documentation, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Experience working with cross-functional teams across multiple locations.
- Interest in network automation, observability, and secure office networking.
- Experience using AI-assisted tools for troubleshooting, documentation, and automation.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with Meraki, Aruba, Cisco, Palo Alto, Fortinet, or similar networking platforms.
- Experience with Datadog or other monitoring and observability tools.
- Knowledge of Python, Ansible, Terraform, or vendor APIs for automation.
- Experience supporting multiple office locations, office buildouts, or hybrid work environments.
- Knowledge of VPNs, network segmentation, NAC, Zero Trust, and firewall security policies.
