Security Infrastructure Engineer
Job Description
Role Overview
Tailscale is looking for a Software Engineer specializing in security and infrastructure to grow their product security team. You'll design and build security controls, improve Tailscale's security properties, and spend 25–50% of your time writing software. The role requires strong async collaboration skills and the ability to work with highly technical teams.
Responsibilities
- Design and build security controls across cloud platforms, OS, Kubernetes, networks, and CI/CD pipelines
- Identify and implement security and privacy improvements across the codebase
- Audit Tailscale infrastructure for technical security weaknesses and drive mitigations to resolution
- Support engineering decisions with threat modeling and security analysis
- Act as Subject Matter Expert during security incidents for infrastructure-level containment and remediation
Requirements
- Expertise in cloud platform security (AWS preferred), multi-cloud networks, and cloud-agnostic system design
- Familiarity with container security, orchestration security, and authentication/authorization
- Knowledge of web/internet security fundamentals — WAFs, TLS, PKI, DNS security
- Proficiency in at least one programming language (Tailscale uses Go) and IaC tools like Terraform or Ansible
- Prior experience in infrastructure security, security operations, threat modeling, or incident response
- Knowledge of OS internals, security mechanisms, and common networking protocols
